"product level is insufficient" message during flat file import

I'm using the import wizard to create a new table from a flat file source. The table gets created but no data gets copied. What's wrong? Here's the report:

SSIS ships as part of SQL 2005, but the setup give you a choice of whether to install it or not.

Please rerun the setup. In one of the first screens the setup program asks which components to installs, there are 5 checkboxes total: SQL/SSAS/SSRS/SSIS and Workstation components. Please make sure the SSIS check box is checked.

|||"Integration Services" is greyed-out as an installation option, I'm guessing, because I'm running XP. It seems odd that I can install Management Studio but cannot use the import-export wizard. Is this right? IS is not considered to be a "client tool" which the documentation says can be installed on XP?|||

Thanks for reporting this problem, it seems like we have a bug here.

Some components of SSIS (e.g. designer) are installed and work with 'Workstation Components' install. Other components of SSIS (e.g. service, dtexec, and dtexecui) require installation of 'Integration Services'.

In current build the wizard can't execute the package it created without 'Integration Services' installation, which for Enterprise Edition means you need Server OS. You can still save the package and run or schedule it on machine with SSIS installed.

We will fix this problem for SP1 release, the wizard should be able to run the package with just 'Workstation Components' install. Unfortunately, we missed this problem.

Thanks,
Michael.

|||I got around the problem (hope I haven't created any others) by uninstalling Enterprise Edition and installing Developer Edition which allows all installation options. I added IS to the install and then successfully ran the import/export wizard.|||

I ran into the same thing in September CTP with an attempted import of an Excel 2003 spreadsheet. I had installed SSIS and was consistently running numerous fairly sophisticated ETL packages between MSSQL Server 2005, MSSQL Server 2000, Oracle and other sources. It does not appear that the error is related to SSIS not being installed.

Thanks.

|||And BTW - I immediately got it to work after importing the sheet into MS Access, and then using MS Access as the import source for MSSQL Server 2005 ...

Thanks.|||

I'm getting this same error when using the RTM release of the SQL Management Studio Import wizard to import data from Excel into SQL 2000. Does anyone know how to fix this?

We've reconsidered this issue, and will be providing a fix for SP1 release.

For now, you need to install SSIS to run the package in the wizard.

|||I too am experiencing this same problem. I am using the standard version of SQL Server Management Studio that I obtained for free at the SQL Server 2005 launch party in San Francisco. I am running Windows XP. I have tried to migrate tables from my remote SQL Server 2000 DB without success. Exporting to Access was successful, but when I import to the new DB I get the following errors:

I just wanted to weigh in and say that it would seem like this would be important enough for a quick 'hotfix'. Ease of migration using these tools is by far the most important reason I switched from MySQL to SQL Server and with these functions not working it is a real bummer.
Can anyone suggest a temporary work-aruond?

|||Damien, your problem is completely unrelated to "product level" issue. SSIS ships as part of SQL 2005, but the setup give you a choice of whether to install it or not.

Thanks,
Michael.

Thanks,
Michael.

"Invalid authorization specification"

I use SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services Deployment Wizard to generate an xmla deployment script. I get the following error when I try to run it:

<Exception xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-analysis:exception" />
<Messages xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-analysis:exception">

</Messages>

In the script, I see the following data sources:

<DataSources>
<DataSource xsi:type="RelationalDataSource">
<ID>Max Min Sales DM</ID>
<Name>Max Min Sales DM</Name>
<ConnectionString>Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Data Source=localhost;Persist Security Info=True;Password=;User ID=;Initial Catalog=MaxMinSalesDM;DataTypeCompatibility=80</ConnectionString>

<ImpersonationInfo>
<ImpersonationMode>Default</ImpersonationMode>
</ImpersonationInfo>
<Timeout>PT0S</Timeout>
</DataSource>
</DataSources>

I am surprised the connection strings don't contain any username/password info since the data source objects have user/password info saved with them when I access the project through Visual Studio. I try manually adding in User ID and Password, rerun, and get a different error:

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

This is quite common situation you are having: Analysis Server doesnt have permission to access SQL Server relational database.
It takes little while to troubleshoot connectivity problems. You need to make sure you set correctly security credentials required for Anlaysis Server to access relational database.

For one, try and make sure the account Analysis Server runs under can access SQL Server using windows authentication.

There is quite a bit information out there on how to setup connectivity and connection security.

"Failed to get schema!"

I have entered an sql demand in the wizard of a grid view for a table (on a form). But i cannot go any further because it gives me the message ... "Failed to get schema!"...

A frined came over by and with him, it worked...

the sql is correct, it calculates sums based on the dates of another table... let me show it:

INSERT INTO SumeU
(ID_var_u, s_x, s_y, s_xx, s_yy, s_xy)
SELECT ID_var_u, SUM(val_x) AS sx, SUM(val_y) AS sy, SUM(val_x * val_x) AS sxx, SUM(val_y * val_y) AS syy, SUM(val_x * val_y) AS sxy
FROM DateU
GROUP BY ID_var_u

"ID_var_u" connects the two tables to another one called "model" (where it is primary key)

Now... please help me... again!

Sounds like a security issue, I'll move your question to a SQL forum for a better answer...

"Connect Object Explorer" issue

HI All,

When I connect to a remote database server my IP gets stored in the Object Explorer connection wizard. How do u ensure that once the server is disconnected you have to reenter the server IP again.

It also shows the username as soon as i enter the server name. I don't want this to happen. Please help.

A SQL Server MVP had the same question not too long ago. We found him an answer and he posted it on this blog:
http://devcow.com:80/blogs/adnrg/archive/2006/09/08/Clear_SQL_Server_2005_Management_Studio_recent_servers_drop_down_list.aspx

Basically, there is no way to clear it out through the UI. You have to delete the following file:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\mru.dat

"Attempted to read or write protected memory error" in SSIS

I'm trying to import data from a Sybase ASE 12.0 database called "OurTestDatabase" into MS SQL Server 2005. I started SSIS Wizard and indicated "Sybase ASE OLEDB Provider" as a source and SQL Native Client as the target. I'm gettign the following error message:

Additional information

The same data source worked with DTS when we thought we'd convert to MS SQL Server 2000. Is this a bug in SSIS? What can be done? Using ".Net Framework Provider for ODBC" is not a good option because this doesn't allow me to choose any tables from the Sybase source.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Did you get the chance ti figure out what was the problem. I do get the similar error while accessing AS400 database.

its fail in :

// Summary:

// Fixes any errors identified during design-time validation that result in

// the component returning Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper.DTSValidationStatus.VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA.

void ReinitializeMetaData();

where its suppose to identify the errors in metadata it seems.

I still am investigating my metadata for AS400 tables.

Hope This helps you.

|||

I'm not sure that we can help debug in detail - we have not tested the Sybase drivers and don't know what behaviour they typically report.

However, most likely the issue arises because the Sybase provider does not support methods we are calling to get data types for columns. I have seen similar issues with the Sybase provider and linked servers. You may want to check with Sybase to see if they have tested their provider with SSIS.

The .Net provider for ODBC may be a workaround in terms of getting column level metadata. You are right that in the present version you cannot browse tables or views. However, although the provider does not list tables, it is still possible to access them, but you need to write the query yourself.

Donald

|||The same error came up when I used the ODBC drivers to access Sybase ASE|||

That sounds like a Sybase issue, then. Have you checked with them, or tested the same calls to the driver with other clients?

The same data source worked with DTS when we thought we'd convert to MS SQL Server 2000. Is this a bug in SSIS? What can be done? Using ".Net Framework Provider for ODBC" is not a good option because this doesn't allow me to choose any tables from the Sybase source.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Did you get the chance ti figure out what was the problem. I do get the similar error while accessing AS400 database.

its fail in :

// Summary:

// Fixes any errors identified during design-time validation that result in

// the component returning Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper.DTSValidationStatus.VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA.

void ReinitializeMetaData();

where its suppose to identify the errors in metadata it seems.

I still am investigating my metadata for AS400 tables.

Hope This helps you.

That sounds like a Sybase issue, then. Have you checked with them, or tested the same calls to the driver with other clients?
