"Codezone Community" and "Questons" Providers in BOL 2005

Having recently started a new online MSFT focused community, I was curious as to if there will be a future release of BOL 2005 where users can "plugin" custom communities that adhere to some future defined interfaces?

thanks,

derek comingore

Hi Derek,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm checking into this and will repost when I get an answer.

Thanks,

Gail

Hi Derek,

Sorry about the delayed response. I was told that if you really want to make your community's content available to the larger SQL Server customer base (or the entire VS customer base in case of a developer community), then you should apply for membership in the CodeZone program. http://www.codezone.com/MyCodezone.CodezoneCom?ActiveID=2001

Hope that gets you going.

$25,000 per processor for this?

What is wrong with Microsoft? How could you honestly release this product?

I agree with everyone else - the new features in SQL Server 2005 are not worth losing the features in 2000!

I'm telling my clients to not upgrade.

You guys had better release a new version or upgrade fast. mySql is starting to be a real competitor. I can no longer justify your cost.

Well, it depends.

There might be also situations where an update is not necessary, but SQL Server 2005 is really more powerful than the SQL Server 2000. If you don′t need the new features and don′t need e.g. the high scalablity functions you might not need the new SQL Server 2005. (In the most cases you will not need the enterprise features and there can use a smaller edition then enterprise.) But this does not justify your general statements here.

I happen to agree with you about how you describe your disatifaction. Most likely MySQL is your best choice.

However, all of my clients have most definitely found that upgrading to SQL 2005 to be well worth the time and expense. I wouldn't consider using MySQL at all since SQL 2005 provides so much functionality that the time and effort to painstakenly code such functionality would easily and quickly surpass the cost of SQL 2005.

Most of us that 'know' how to use SQL 2005 can easily justify the cost. That you cannot speaks to SQL 2005 not having any value to you or your needs, and/or your not having the skills to use the product to it best use.

Really, what goes does a post such as your accomplish? Constructive critique is often welcome, mindless bitching does no one any good -except perhaps for a brief catharsis for the writer...

#### WISH LIST: next release #####

Hi:
I love SQL RS. Its awesome for a first release.
1) It would be nice to have a table of contents kind of thing on the report
manager home page. Something like a catalog, with the report names
hyperlinked, so that a user can browse through the catalog, instead of going
to each folder.
2) I love the matrix, but has a lot of bugs with subtotals/more than 3 row
groups. In these cases the export to excel doesnt work. Reports without excel
are no use. Hope these bugs get resolved in the next release.
3) HAve an option to open sub reports in a new window
4) Have access to the report pramaeter section, so that we can customize the
position.
5) Calender with dates parameters
6) Being able to hide parameters with the allow null option (SP1 fix doesnt
work on parameters whihc have the allow null option). Also why cant the allow
null have a fx (conditional). Thanks for the feedback. SQL 2005 Reporting Services will make you happier
in some areas of your feature list below but unfortunately not in some other
areas. Look for Beta 3 of SQL 2005 which will have a bunch of enhancements
for RS.
Any other feature requests, feel free to post or email me them.
